Introducing Daniel Thaly

Organised by the Waltham Forest Twinning Association, this evening celebrates Daniel Thaly (1879-1950), once called "the prince of Antillean poetry", whose verses celebrate Caribbean landscapes and environmental themes. The event marks the publication of Looting Hummingbirds: Selected Poems of Daniel Thaly, the first English translation of his French-language work. Professor Lizabeth Paravisini-Gebert joins online to discuss Thaly's research and legacy, publisher Polly Pattullo introduces his life story, and Jane Ulysses Grell gives readings in French and English, followed by light refreshments and book sales. It takes place in the Acanthus Room on the gallery's top floor, accessible via the Deeney's café entrance or the front door with wheelchair access. The free event is ticketed via Eventbrite.
