Stargazing at Walthamstow: Afrofutures in the Skies - science, imagination and cultural identity

Astronomer Michael Lomotey of StowStargazers explores how access to the night sky, once shared across cultures, became racialised through urban segregation, colonial dispossession and environmental injustice, including light pollution's disproportionate impact on marginalised communities and diversity challenges in space science, with examples of equity initiatives in Nairobi and Ghana. A guided night-sky walk follows the talk, weather permitting. Runs 6-8:30pm, meeting at the car park/Engine House. Aimed at adults; beginners welcome.
