Venice, Florida is a strange city located along the southwestern coast of Florida, facing the Gulf of Mexico. It is located about twenty miles from Sarasota County. The Locomotive Engineer Brotherhood founded it in 1926. BLE wanted to build a city that would function as a planned retirement community in the coastal region of Florida.
