Halloween lands on a Saturday this year, and Walthamstow is making the most of it, with fancy dress, taco festivals and dark cabaret filling the calendar from Friday night through to Sunday.
Friday night
Strut x QLDC's Bad Friday Ball - Haunted Hoedown kicks the weekend off at Big Penny Social with a Halloween-themed queer line-dancing night. There's a beginner lesson from 7:30pm before the floor opens up to song requests. From £13.
For something louder, head to Walthamstow Trades Hall for From Dusk til Dawn With Hot Pants, a Halloween-themed Dark Disco night running disco, funk, soul and rock 'n' roll with spooky extras thrown in. Doors from 9pm.
Saturday
Start the day at Blackhorse Workshop with Family Make Stuff Morning: Halloween Decorations, a hands-on woodworking session for a parent or guardian and a child aged 7 and up, making spooky decorations to take home. £35 per pair, 10am to midday (an afternoon session also runs if the morning one fills up).
Over at Signature Brew's Blackhorse Road taproom, The Tacover - Taco Festival gets going from 10:30am for anyone after something to eat alongside their Saturday pint.
In the evening, Soho Theatre Walthamstow hosts Neon Frights With Lou Sanders, a Halloween comedy showcase headlined by Lou Sanders with Two Hearts, Dan Tiernan, Frankie Thompson and Sam Eley. From £20.50, doors 8pm.
Sunday
The weekend's quieter start is Walthamstow Farmers Market in the Town Square, free to browse and running rain or shine from 10am to 2pm.
Families with younger children should look at Family Disco: Halloween Special (Sunday) at Big Penny Social, with resident DJs Ray & CC, bubbles, games and singalongs. It's ticketed for ages 3 and up at £7 — the Saturday sessions sold out, so this is the one left.
To close the weekend, Soho Theatre Walthamstow has The Tiger Lillies: Songs for The Dead, a Day of the Dead concert of dark cabaret and anarchic opera mixing classic Tiger Lillies pieces with new material. From £15 (a separate Sunday evening performance has already sold out, so book ahead).
