London Overground's Weaver Line will be closed between Bethnal Green and Cheshunt/Enfield Town on two consecutive weekends next month while Network Rail carries out essential maintenance.
Services will not run on 19-20 September or 26-27 September. The work covers overhead line renewals, vegetation clearance, structural inspections and repairs to a gas pipe bridge at Stoke Newington.
Rail replacement buses will run during both closures. Passengers travelling to Bethnal Green can change at Hackney Downs for Greater Anglia services via Tottenham Hale. The diversions will also affect Greater Anglia services that normally run through Seven Sisters.
Joe Kennedy, Network Rail's infrastructure director, said grouping the work into two weekends "means our teams can carry out a significant amount of work safely and efficiently, while avoiding the need for further closures" — the trade-off being two disrupted weekends now rather than a longer series of them later.
Anyone heading to the Tottenham Hotspur versus Aston Villa match on 19 September, or the BIGBANG concert on 26 September, is advised to allow extra journey time.
Passengers are asked to check tfl.gov.uk/plan-a-journey and greateranglia.co.uk before setting out.
