Seven leisure centres across Waltham Forest, including those in Walthamstow, have reopened as official 'warm spaces' for the winter season. The initiative offers free access to warm indoor areas where residents can enjoy hot drinks, phone charging, Wi-Fi, and showers.

The programme, launched by GLL in partnership with the council, aims to support residents facing energy and cost-of-living pressures. The warm spaces are open to everyone, regardless of membership status, and will run until 13 March 2026.

Participating venues include Walthamstow Leisure Centre and Leytonstone Leisure Centre, among others. Alongside basic amenities, some centres will also host social activities to help combat isolation during the colder months.

This winter marks the third year of the scheme, which has been widely praised for its community impact.
