Walthamstow Trans Pride is back for its third year. This time it is built around a simple idea: looking after one another.

The event takes place on Saturday 24 October at Walthamstow Trades Hall, and this year's theme is "reciprocal care". Organisers have put together a day that is part celebration and part practical support for trans people and their community.

"We are living in a time where the attack on trans people is constant, systemic and violent," said Dais Hale of the organising team.

Care you can actually use

The programme includes a name-changing workshop led by The Dyke Project, along with housing justice resources and sexual health information. Visitors can also get a free haircut or a mini massage, or join the clothes swap. Local LGBTIQ+ creatives will have stalls around the venue.

There is also a community meal and a dedicated chill-out space with tea, colouring books and fidget toys for anyone who needs a break from the bustle.

Cabaret and music

In the evening there is cabaret and music curated by sTink, with performances from Cyro, Richard Energy, Nat Funni and Loren Dell'Arco.

"We look forward to welcoming our community and celebrating our joy and resistance," said sTink.

A new solidarity fund

This year also sees the launch of the Walthamstow Trans Pride Community Solidarity Fund, which will give money directly to trans+ people in Waltham Forest to help them access care and support.

"We've protested, marched, and spoken out, but solidarity has to be material too," said Kristina from the organising team.

People can help by donating, by becoming a "Trans Pride Champion" and organising their own fundraiser, or by buying raffle tickets for prizes donated by local businesses.

Getting a ticket

Nearly 200 tickets had already been sold when the Waltham Forest Echo reported the news. The remaining tickets are available through OutSavvy, and anyone hoping to go is encouraged to check soon.
