Walthamstow Town Centre Improvement Works Set to Begin
23 Apr 2025

Major improvement works are set to begin in Walthamstow town centre, with construction due to start imminently. According to a statement released today by Waltham Forest Council, the project aims to revitalise the high street area, enhancing its appearance and accessibility.
The works, part of the "Enjoy Walthamstow" programme, will include repaving streets, improving lighting and signage, planting new trees, and upgrading public spaces to make them more welcoming. The initiative is also designed to support local businesses by increasing footfall and creating a safer, more pleasant shopping environment.
Waltham Forest Council confirmed that the improvements will roll out in phases to minimise disruption to residents and traders. Councillor Roshaan Chowdhury, cabinet member for culture and parks, said the works reflect the council’s long-term investment in Walthamstow’s future and are informed by local feedback gathered during previous consultations.
“Walthamstow town centre is a vital hub for our community, and these improvements will help it thrive for years to come,” said Cllr Chowdhury.
The council is encouraging residents to stay updated via its website and to support local shops during the improvement period. The project is expected to continue through to 2026.
