A nursery in Walthamstow has been temporarily relocated after receiving threatening emails, prompting an ongoing investigation by the Metropolitan Police.

The incident took place on Monday, April 14, when police were called to St Mary’s School on Brooke Road, which hosts the nursery. At the time of the threat, the school was closed for the Easter holidays, meaning no pupils were on the premises. Authorities have stressed that, at this stage, the threats are not believed to be credible.

As a precautionary step, the nursery opted to relocate while police assess the situation. Officers from the Metropolitan Police are coordinating with South Yorkshire Police, where schools in the Sheffield area have also reported receiving similar email threats.

Walthamstow MP Stella Creasy confirmed that St Mary’s was the only London school affected by the threats. She emphasized that there is currently no evidence to suggest the messages were motivated by religious factors.

Waltham Forest Council has expressed solidarity with the nursery staff and assured them of continued support as investigations proceed. St Mary’s School is expected to reopen as planned on April 22.

The police presence has been heightened in the area as a precaution, and parents are being kept informed about safety measures and the investigation’s progress.
