Walthamstow has been named the Best Place to Live in London for 2025 by The Sunday Times, cementing its status as one of the capital’s most sought-after neighbourhoods. The accolade, announced on March 21, celebrates the area’s blend of creativity, green spaces, and strong community spirit.

The judges praised Walthamstow for being "diverse, vibrant, and cool without being frosty," pointing to its distinctive mix of cultural assets and local pride. Key attractions include the God’s Own Junkyard neon art space, the William Morris Gallery, and the sprawling Walthamstow Wetlands – the largest urban wetland in Europe. The forthcoming Soho Theatre Walthamstow is also expected to bring West End-level performances to the area.

Residents cite the sense of belonging and quality of life as key reasons for staying. Kelly Fogarty, a local of nine years, said: “It’s friendly, it’s creative, it’s relaxed and it’s for everyone — regardless of what stage of life you’re at.”

Housing in the area includes a mix of Victorian terraces and new developments, while transport links via the Victoria Line and London Overground make commuting convenient. The neighbourhood has also seen a rise in independent businesses, with restaurants, coffee shops, and craft beer venues thriving.

The Sunday Times Best Places to Live list evaluates locations based on factors like schools, transport, green space, and community engagement.

Walthamstow’s recognition comes amid ongoing regeneration efforts and an increasing demand for homes in East London. For residents, it’s a proud affirmation of what they already know: Walthamstow is a place worth staying — and growing — in.
