If you've ever stopped on your way down a Walthamstow side street to take in a mural, you're in good company. With 58 recorded street artworks, Waltham Forest is one of the most colourful boroughs in London.
The borough has the fifth highest number of street artworks in the capital, according to research from property developer Barratt London.
Tower Hamlets tops the list with 197 recorded pieces, many of them concentrated around Brick Lane, Spitalfields and Whitechapel. Hackney follows with 106 artworks across creative hubs including Shoreditch, Dalston and Hackney Wick, while Camden comes third with 85.
Lambeth and Waltham Forest complete the top five, with Brixton and Walthamstow the most decorated neighbourhoods in their boroughs.
James Holmear, regional sales and marketing director at Barratt London, said: "The character of a neighbourhood, including its cultural and creative identity, can play an important role in shaping how people experience an area. While locations such as Camden and Shoreditch are well known for their street art, our research shows that boroughs including Brent, Waltham Forest, Bromley and Newham also have thriving collections of public artwork that often fly under the radar.
"It's encouraging to see creative communities flourishing across so many parts of the capital, demonstrating that some of London's most interesting cultural experiences can be found beyond the city's most established visitor destinations."
