Fancy grabbing an e-bike for the school run, the shops or a spin round the park? Waltham Forest Council wants to bring dockless e-bike hire to the borough — and before anything happens, it wants to know what you think.
The council has opened a borough-wide survey on the idea, and it is explicitly not just for people who already cycle. Whether you're on two wheels every day or you've never hired a bike in your life, your answers are meant to shape how a scheme would work here.
Waltham Forest already has a decent head start: almost 60 kilometres of cycle lanes and more than 1,000 bike hangars for residents, which the council says makes it the best borough in London to cycle in. E-bikes, meanwhile, have taken off across the capital, with around 150,000 e-bike trips made in London every day.
The council says any hire scheme introduced here would be done "in a safe and responsible way, with residents involved in the process at every step".
Cllr Paul Perkins, Leader of Waltham Forest Council, said: "Greener and more convenient travel for our residents is at the heart of what we want to deliver for our borough. That's why I'm delighted to announce our intention to introduce an e-bike hire to Waltham Forest."
He added: "We're committed to delivering a safe and convenient scheme that works for everyone, whether you're a cyclist or not."

The survey is short and lives on the council's Let's Talk platform at talk.walthamforest.gov.uk/dockless-e-bikes-engagement, where you'll also find an FAQ answering the obvious questions.
