Housebuilder Vistry has launched an employment platform intended to connect Waltham Forest residents with jobs and training generated by its developments in the borough.
The portal, goodwork.london, has been built in partnership with employment and skills specialist GoodPeople. It covers opportunities across three Vistry developments in Waltham Forest, which together are creating around 1,500 new homes.
The platform is designed to work in both directions: residents can browse vacancies with Vistry and its supply chain, while subcontractors use the same site to advertise positions and record employment outcomes. It was launched to Vistry's supply chain at an event in July attended by around 30 supply chain organisations, alongside representatives from GoodPeople and Waltham Forest Council.
Kevin Delve, managing director at Vistry East London, said the platform "represents an important step in ensuring local people benefit directly from investment in their area".
Joss Hunt, co-founder and chief operating officer at GoodPeople, pointed to the gap the portal is meant to close. "Construction needs tens of thousands of new people every year, yet too many local residents still can't find a way in," he said.
Councillor Eva Tabbasam, cabinet member for housing and regeneration, said the portal "will help connect Waltham Forest residents to local construction jobs, apprenticeships and training opportunities".
Councillor Chanté Johnson, cabinet member for inclusive economy, said: "We want local people to benefit from local investment, and the employment platform provides a simple way for residents to find work opportunities."
