A large section of the London Overground's Suffragette line is closed after a freight train derailed near Barking. Passengers have been told to expect disruption to last well into next week.

Transport for London (TfL) says no trains will run between South Tottenham and Barking Riverside until at least the end of this week. Four of the eight stations without a service are in Waltham Forest:

  • Blackhorse Road
  • Walthamstow Queens Road
  • Leyton Midland Road
  • Leytonstone High Road
  • Wanstead Park
  • Woodgrange Park
  • Barking
  • Barking Riverside

Trains are still running on the rest of the line, every 30 minutes.

A TfL spokesperson said: "Disruption is expected to continue throughout next week, although timescales may change due to the complexity of the repairs."

Getting around

The closure takes out a key orbital link through the borough, so many people who travel between Walthamstow, Leyton and Leytonstone and the rest of east London will need to change their journeys. London Underground and bus services are accepting tickets on alternative routes.

TfL is advising customers to "allow extra time for their journeys and check before they travel."
