Families can join a festive mission to save Christmas at Walthamstow Wetlands this December. London Wildlife Trust is running Winter at the Wetlands from 5 to 23 December.

The interactive adventure is called Operation Redwing. Children join two characters, Norm and Nesbit, on a mission to save Christmas. Along the way they go into a secret hide to look for wildlife, learn how animals migrate and survive the winter, and design Santa's "Super Sleigh".

At the end they meet Santa. He tells the story of how he got lost in a winter woodland nearly 100 years ago and was rescued by wild creatures. Professional actors from Complete Works bring the experience to life.

Every child gets a gift. Money from ticket sales goes to London Wildlife Trust's conservation work at the reserve, which is home to herons, kingfishers and hedgehogs.

David Mooney, chief executive of London Wildlife Trust, said: "Winter at the Wetlands is a rare blend of Christmas magic and wildlife discoveries, found nowhere else in London."
