Ever wondered how the council decides what to spend its money on? Here's your chance to find out, and to have a say.

Waltham Forest Council is inviting residents to a Budget Assembly on Wednesday 4 November at Assembly Hall, Walthamstow E17.

What happens on the night

You'll hear about the council's financial position and its priorities. Then you'll take part in a budget exercise that shows how these financial decisions get made, and the choices involved.

The council says: "We want our budget process to be open and transparent, and to give residents a greater say."

The assembly follows on from the council's "Future Waltham Forest" engagement work. The idea is to bring residents together to help decide the values and principles behind the budget.

Why now?

Money is tight. In February the council asked central government for £62 million in financial support over three years. The council describes the assembly as a chance for residents to have a direct say in decisions about the borough's future at a difficult time.

How to take part

  • Book a place through Eventbrite, linked from the council's news page.
  • You'll be paid £25 for taking part, by bank transfer. Payments are handled by the research agency Public Perspectives.

You don't need to be a budget expert. If you live in the borough and care about what happens to its services, that's enough.
