Fire Damages Wood Street Flat in Walthamstow

A fire broke out in a flat above shops on Wood Street in Walthamstow on April 22, prompting a swift response from emergency services. Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to the scene in the early afternoon.

According to the London Fire Brigade, the blaze destroyed half of the mansard roof and part of a first-floor flat. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The fire was under control by around 4pm.

Initial investigations suggest the fire was accidental, likely caused by hot works being conducted on the roof of an adjacent part of the building. Firefighters remained on-site for several hours to ensure the area was safe.

Residents were advised to avoid the area during the response, and traffic was temporarily disrupted. The incident serves as a reminder of the risks associated with building maintenance work and the importance of fire safety precautions.

An official statement from the fire brigade is expected later this week with further details.
