If you live on a council-owned or council-managed estate in Waltham Forest, the council wants your views on a new housing estates management policy. It sets out how communal areas and shared spaces should be looked after, and the consultation is open to council tenants, leaseholders and shared owners until Friday 30 October.
What's changing
The draft policy proposes stricter rules on communal areas. Stored items could be removed without notice if they pose a hazard.
It would also ban:
- drones
- fireworks
- charging e-bikes or e-scooters, because of the fire risk
Residents would need written permission to put up air-conditioning units or balcony solar panels.
The policy also includes new rules on pram sheds, metal grilles, residents' own CCTV and commemorative plaques. The council says these are meant to reduce fire risk, "improve accessibility, and protect privacy".
Some changes residents may welcome
Old "no ball games" signs would come down. In their place, the council pledges to create safe play spaces and encourage people to use outdoor areas.
The policy also promises "more frequent and transparent" estate inspections, and a commitment to retrofit electric vehicle charging points on all estates "where feasible".
Why your response counts
The council calls the consultation "essential to shaping a policy that genuinely reflects local priorities". It says feedback will "help identify areas that need clarification or improvement, gauge whether residents agree with the proposed approach, and ensure the final policy supports safe, clean and well-managed estates".
Residents are encouraged to read the full policy before responding.
How to take part: read the policy and fill in the survey on the council's Talk Waltham Forest site by Friday 30 October.
