Waltham Forest Council wants to turn Leyton Library into a shared neighbourhood hub, and it's asking residents what they think.

Under the plans, Family Hub services would move from The Junction in Leytonstone into the library building. The council says the combined building would include:

  • a children's library joined up with a Family Hub welcome area
  • flexible rooms for community use and private appointments
  • better facilities for families
  • the library's existing reading and study spaces, which would stay

What could happen to The Junction

As part of the wider plans, The Junction could be used to expand post-16 learning. The council says this would help young people and older learners in the south of the borough with education, employment and training.

Have your say

"We want to understand your concerns, hear your suggestions and find out what residents need from local services," the council said.

Family Hub services will keep running as normal during the consultation.

You can fill in the Leyton neighbourhood hub survey online on the council's website or go along to a drop-in session. For a paper copy or help with the survey, email [email protected] or call 0208 496 3000.

The consultation closes on Monday 30 November 2026.
