Community Transport Waltham Forest has been awarded a grant of £811,860 by the Motability Foundation to support its Get Up and Go services across Waltham Forest and Newham.

The services offer door-to-store shopping trips, excursions and social groups for disabled and motor-impaired residents — the kind of everyday journeys that are easy to take for granted until they are out of reach.

The money will fund a three-year project introducing new activities. A Time Together Club will launch in Waltham Forest, and Accessible Heritage Tours will run across both boroughs, developed with a local historian and Age Exchange. The project will also provide transport for SEND children attending holiday clubs in Newham.

Director Helen Tredoux said the funding "enables the organisation to continue and grow our services and provide parity between our services in Waltham Forest and Newham", coming after a period of financial pressure on voluntary sector organisations.

Chair Paul Leslie said: "The grant will contribute to our deep commitment to serving local communities." He said the services help "strengthen communities, improve wellbeing, and tackle loneliness and exclusion".

Agencies from both boroughs will work alongside Community Transport Waltham Forest to deliver the project.
