A community sauna could be coming to the edge of Highams Park Lake, on the site of the lake's former boathouse.
Community Sauna Baths, which already runs a sauna in Walthamstow, has teamed up with Kindling Sauna on a proposal for the site. The City of London Corporation owns the land. In March it invited bids to lease the site for community use, and after weighing the proposals it picked the joint community sauna plan as its preferred option.
The two operators presented their plans at the Highams Park Planning Group's annual general meeting on 8 October.
It is still early days. No formal planning application has been submitted yet. Before one is filed, the operators are asking residents for their views through an online consultation, and the feedback will be passed to the Highams Park Planning Group.
The local newsletter The Stowdown welcomed the idea, saying Community Sauna Baths has managed to create spaces that feel "welcoming, relaxed and genuinely inclusive".
